GERONTOCRACY NOT DEMOCRACY

 GERONTOCRACY NOT DEMOCRACY

The first introduced system of government in Nigeria was a civilian system of government where we had a presidential and ceremonial head of state, the system of government could not survive the Nigeria

military wrath, due to their incessant coup de' tat. The civilian rule as suffered the military brunt, that is why they succumb to the pressure.

Power through the barrel of a gun was known with Nigeria military personnel, They made civil rule difficult to govern in Nigerian not until the intervention of European union (EU) and other super-power country, their joint effort made democracy achievable.

Between 1960 to date the system of government in Nigeria kept changing inline with unprofessional  Nigerians leaders then, which they don't known their right compare to their left in politics. The military regime was full of intimidation, oppression and depression. They also rule with impunity and lack of respect for civilians.

Gerontocracy is a system of government whereby the old people failed submit political power and structure to young people in order to participates in active and full time politics. Good example was the state of Sparta, the gerousia was a council made of members who are at 60 years old and served for life.

The Nigerian system of government for so long was GERONTOCRACY NOT DEMOCRACY, when the ex-president olusegun obasanjo ruled he was at his late 60s and early 70s most of his cabinet members are of his age bracket.

The present Nigeria president Mohammed Buhari was 72 years old when he became Nigeria president and his suburdinate, ministers and others statemen are above 70 years old. This indicates that Nigerian system of government is GERONTOCRACY NOT DEMOCRACY.
